MARIA’S STEAKCAFE @ JALAN MAAROF, BANGSAR

It’s heartening to see that Maria’s SteakCafe is doing well after my first visit about 7 years ago. When my friends ask me where to go for steaks, Maria’s is still one of my personal recommendations. Anyway it has been a while since we had a steak out, so we decided to drop by their Bangsar branch last weekend for a scrumptious dinner.

Thai Style Beef Salad
Maria’s menu remained largely the same throughout the years but the Spicy Beef Salad @ RM28 is a new addition. It’s clearly a Thai-inspired dish and features succulent slices of Australian beef tataki on a bed of fresh greens and served with a tangy sauce. I like that they keep the flavor true to what it’s supposed to be as it was adequately spicy.
Maria's SteakCafe Pumpkin Soup
Maria's SteakCafe Oxtail Soup
For soup, you won’t really go wrong with any of their offerings. However, if you like a meaty one then by all means go ahead and try their Oxtail Soup @ RM20. That being said, both their mushroom and pumpkin soups are equally tasty with a wonderfully thick and creamy consistency. Just to clarify though, the garlic bread actually comes only with the oxtail soup.
Maria's SteakCafe Wagyu 7 Steak
Maria’s doesn’t call itself a steakcafe for nothing. Steaks are the stars here and they come in different kinds and prices. Their most affordable steaks here are normal Australian Rib Eye and Fillet and they clock in at about RM60 each. Black Angus is available at RM48/100gm while Wagyu 5 and 7 are RM80/100gm and RM95/100gm respectively.
Personally, Black Angus is already a respectful choice but if you want a truly mesmerizing steak experience, then go for the melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu 7(shown above) which is specially marinated to enhance its natural flavor. I am not sure what they use for the rub, but it’s sure delicious even when enjoyed without any sauce.
Canadian Seabass
Their seafood dishes are well executed too. The Pan Fried Canadian Seabass(essentially an Atlantic Cod) @ RM75 was perfectly cooked and was accompanied by a light sake sauce with a lovely fruit tang. But as much as we enjoyed it, we were somewhat let down by the dish presentation. It could have certainly looked a lot better with some simple adjustments.
Maria's SteakCafe Tiramisu
Desserts wise, you may opt for slices of their homemade cakes (personal favorites are: blueberry cheese and moist chocolate) Tiramisu is also available @ RM15 and should be worth trying out if you’re into it. Just keep in mind that it’s not heavily infused with rum. Otherwise, everything else is pretty much spot on.
Maria's SteakCafe Restaurant
Maria's SteakCafe Bangsar
I am a bit sentimental when it comes to Maria’s because I know they have come a long way to establish themselves among the other more well-known restaurants in town.
Now, they are no longer a hidden gem as I mentioned in my very first blog post I wrote for them. Instead they are a recognized place to enjoy good and simple food in KL. If you are here for a meal, mention “VKEONG” to enjoy an exclusive 10% discount :)
