Foxconn Electronics and panel maker Innolux are currently evaluating whether to jointly invest and construct new 8.6G production facilities in India, according to industry sources.
In addition to partnering with Innolux for building 6G facilities in the Taiwan southern area of Lujhu that are expected to go into mass production in 2016, the partnership in India would secure a more comprehensive supply chain in the area due to growing demand for various applications.
The sources said Foxconn has recently been in discussions how it can compete against new developments from panel makers in China and South Korea that are unleashing new capacity.
Foxconn is aggressively seeking solutions to strengthen its presence in the panel market that may also include the reported purchase of Sharp's LCD business, as many reports have noted recently.
Foxconn may also seek to eventually push for a full merger with Innolux, but the sources said this is only speculation at the moment
