Brand New Taste Cafe by G Hotel Penang

A modern, chic restaurant set in the glitz of the iconic G Hotel has recently undergone a major refurbishment and it is now reopened to the public. Previously known as G Cafe, the newly upgraded restaurant is now known as Taste Cafe; well-designed into a young, frisky and vibrant space. Modern-contemporary design concept was used to give the place a delicate touch, with its minimalist sophisticated setting; it has the potential to be the ideal place for a family gathering. If music is your kind of thing, live band performance will be available everyday from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm (except Tuesdays). Buffet offering has been devised and here's a list of their new themes:

Carnivores would be thrilled to know that Farm Friday was especially planned for them, the fleshy-themed buffet focuses on serving meat. For a change, G Hotel introduces Lava Stone Barbecue Grill with aplomb. The seemingly ostentatious Lava Stone does not come without any purposes, it serves as a better fuel for even temperature which is believed to be able to seal the meat juice. In addition to that, it is believed that Lava Stone releases higher but more even temperature; giving more control in cooking the food, particularly time-concerned grills like Steak and Seafood. Taste Cafe is the first restaurant in Penang that uses Lava Stone for buffet thus far, this is in line with the restaurant's philosophy of enhancing the natural flavors of food without superfluous seasoning.

We noticed the standard setting for Starters but something new caught our attention- the addition of Antipasti. It certainly adds an inviting touch to the typical fare. The Roasted Oyster Mushrooms were not served as they were, drizzles of Balsamic Vinegar were added; resulting a refreshing acidic yet juicy Oyster Mushrooms, though not my favorite but a good new experience for me. Frittata is not a common scene at any buffet spread but it sure is a promising start for your meal. Taste Cafe's surprised us with its thick but fluffy-soft and eggy texture, delicately seasoned to the right spot. Below satisfaction? Try their array of fresh Sashimi Cuts (Salmon, Tuna and Octopus) and cold cut platters, that would work perfectly with a bed of fresh greens otherwise. Fresh Bread Rolls are available too if that is what you are looking for.

Fresh meat in its unadulterated best, head to the live grill station overlooking the green garden near Tree Bar and pick your share. Your best bet would probably be the Red Meat and Seafood. Equally exciting and enticing would be their Roasted Prime Rib; insist on the Rib Bones if you feel like chomping down one and the Chef will be happily complied. Another praise-worthy dish from the buffet spread would be their Beef Meat Balls, flavors were sublime and the texture was satisfying, a perfect dish to go with their creamily soft mashed.

Finish the meal with the array of meticulously prepared sweet treats; soft, fluffy and warm Bread Butter Pudding served with Vanilla Sauce should do the trick. To add a more playful dimension of taste, add a scoop of their Gelatomio Ice Cream to yourBread Butter Pudding, for hot and cold sensation. Adding further enjoyment to your meal, try their Caramel Macademia. While the Caramel flavor was somewhat soft, we enjoyed the nutty texture and the not-too-sweet cake, jeweled with a piece of Pecan. If eating fresh fruits may be a little dull for you, try dipping them into the handsome-flowing Chocolate Fountain and add a variety of condiments to it.
