You Might Soon be Able to Unlock Your Mac Using your iPhone’s Touch ID

iPhone SE Touch ID

It looks like unlocking your Mac device in the future is going to become a lot easier, if you have an iPhone that is. According to reports, Apple is working on allowing users to unlock their Mac using the Touch ID on their iPhone.
People have been wondering whether Apple will include Touch ID onto Mac devices, but it turns out, Apple has a better solution. Apple engineers are designing an auto unlock function that will unlock a Mac when an authorised iPhone is in close proximity. This feature will utilise Bluetooth LE frameworks, and will be similar to how the auto unlock function on the Apple Watch works with an authorised iPhone.
MacRumors reports that there is a possibility that users can also use their Apple Watch to unlock the Mac even when an iPhone isn’t present. This could be similar to the Knock app for iPhone and Apple Watch that uses a Bluetooth to unlock a Mac instead of a password. However, Knock requires an iOS and a Mac app to work, but something that comes default from Apple could be a whole lot more seamless.
Sadly though, the feature is not confirmed. It is being planned for OS X 10.12, but since Apple has yet to make an announcement, things could change at any time.
