It appears Google is having quite a hard time coming up with a dessert name for Android N, or so it claims. With that in mind, the company has just announced at Google I/O 2016 that it will let consumers decide on the name of Android N. According to the company, this is the very first time the public has a say on what to call the next version of Android.
Naturally, the final name of Android N will be decided by Google. More likely than not, this is to avoid ending up with a name like Android “NameyMcNameface,” which was teased by the company at the event. As for what consumers can vote for, practically any word that starts with the letter “N” can be submitted, although it’s safe to assume Google will only take into consideration submissions based on names of desserts.
Android N brings with it a slew of new features to the table. These include better performance in general, faster app installation and boot time, along with a “Clear All” button for the Recent Apps page. Of course, one of the most exciting new feature of Android N is Split-Screen, which allows users to run two apps simultaneously.
