Solar charging kiosks established in Africa

Mobile solar kiosks are helping Rwandans not only charge their cell phones but also join in on a successful franchise. Henri Nyakarundi, founder of African Renewable Energy Distributor, created these kiosks to provide several services to Rwandans including cell phone charging, advertisements and airtime for mobile devices.
However, the key element that sets Nyakarundi’s business apart is that as a franchise it allows other Rwandan citizens to set up their own kiosks cheaply, thus providing opportunities for financial advancement.
Upon receiving his first prototype, Nyakarundi worked for four years to perfect the design. He struggled through the process of dealing with manufacturing companies and learning the best way to translate the kiosk from prototype to successful deployment.
Currently, Nyakarundi plans to expand his business model to other African countries including Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia.
